One of the key dates in Veronafiere’s calendar, Vinitaly confirms its status as the most important international event dedicated to wine and spirits. The 50th edition took place 10-13 April 2016. It attracted 4100 exhibitors from 30 countries, 120,000 specialist operators (50,000 international) including 28,000 accredited buyers from international markets (up by 23% compared to 2015. Vinitaly today is a network comprising Vinitaly International, OperaWine, Vinitaly Wine Club, VIA – Vinitaly International Academy,
wine2wine, and the International Packaging Competition, not to mention Vinitaly & the City, the off-show event in the heart of Verona that in 2016 involved 29,000 wine lovers. In 2015, Vinitaly was included in the special promotion plan for internationalisation of Made in Italy foodstuffs defined by the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. In 2015, Vinitaly – from May to October – was also in the forefront of Expo Milan with the VINO „– A Taste of ITALY“ Pavilion. The installation received strong support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies and Veronafiere, and had the task of narrating the history and culture of wine in Italy through a dual path focused on information and tastings. The Pavilion was visited by 2.1 million people (20% international), with more than 800,000 tastings in the Wine Cellar of the Future and 500 appointments including events and conventions. Success was also highlighted by the presentation of the „Class Expo Pavilion Heritage Award“ for the best Pavilion at Expo 2015 for a single food product. 2016 also saw the debut of the International „5 Star Wines“ Award – designed to be an effective business tool and genuine marketing lever for companies. As part of the partnership signed in 2016 between Veronafiere and Fiera Milano in the agro-food sector, as of 2017 the Vinitaly International Academy will organize the „Wine Discovery“ event within the scope of Tuttofood in Milan: this initiative aims to involve Italian and international production, wine experts and sommeliers in promotion events and professional training.
Sol&Agrifood
Sol&Agrifood is the Quality Agro-Foods Exhibition held every year in Verona in conjunction with Vinitaly. A large section of the exhibition is devoted to high quality olive oil, in keeping with the tradition and experience perfected by Veronafiere since 1987 when the first Olive Oil Show was held and thereafter with Sol.
In 2016, the event attracted 56,000 visitors (25% international from 82 countries); it is also the perfect showcase for the promotional events dedicated to the oils winning Sol d’Oro awards, the most important international olive oil competition organised by Veronafiere that now boasts two editions per year: Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere in Verona in February as the preview event for Sol&Agrifood and Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere, travelling around producer countries south of the Equator. A new addition in 2017 is EVOO Days, two days of training on extra virgin olive oil organised by Veronafiere during the Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere Competition.
Enolitech
The offering in the wine and olive oil value chain is completed by Enolitech, first held at Veronafiere in 1998 also alongside Sol&Agrifood and Vinitaly. Enolitech – the International Exhibition of Wine-Growing and Cellar Techniques & Olive-Growing and Olive Oil Technologies (www.enolitech.it) – showcases equipment and services covering the entire product cycle. The event is consequently the most comprehensive showcase ever of machinery, equipment and accessories for production, bottling, transport, storage and tasting of wine and olive oil: previews of tomorrow’s wine cellar and oil mill technologies. The 2016 edition was attended by 38 thousand trade operators (21% international from 65 countries).
